2021 Blockchain For Business Conference a Great Success for Students and Companies

The Blockchain Center of Excellence at the Sam M. Walton College of Business hosted the Center’s fourth-annual conference, branded as the 2021 Blockchain for Business Conference: Building a Better World, on Friday, October 8th. All sessions reside on the Walton College YouTube Page – Blockchain Center of Excellence Playlist. The theme for this year was Building a World. It begins with building a better business ecosystem. One that is designed to be more sustainable, inclusive, and scalable. Companies who intentionally design distributed systems with these factors in mind create stronger and more enduring networks over time.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our team decided to pivot from a hybrid conference to a fully virtual conference. The conference was live streamed from a studio set up in the Bentonville campus, and students joined a watch party on the Fayetteville campus while respecting social distancing measures. It was a one-day conference with speaker sessions in the morning and Breakout Rooms in the afternoon. View the conference agenda here.

In total, 34 speakers contributed towards the event. The main stage had 19 featured speakers distributed over 7 sessions, ranging from 30-50 minutes. They presented on tech ethics, supply chains, finance, invoice processing, empathy and inclusion, economics and tokenization, and security and risk mitigation in the context of Blockchains. In the afternoon, 15 speakers led breakout sessions on credentials, governance, digital health passes, food safety, pharmaceutical traceability and blockchain innovation in Arkansas.

The conference was live streamed on 2 different platforms – YouTube and Brella.io. Brella was the main conferencing platform marketed for registered attendees. Across all platforms, a total of 634 attendees participated in the conference on October 8th. There were 487 registered participants on Brella, and 178 attendees viewed on YouTube. Over 259 organizations were represented at the conference.
