Use-Case Spotlight | Gigi Gatti (Grameen Foundation)

Gigi Gatti is Grameen Foundation USA’s Technology for Development Director.  Grameen is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, DC. Grameen was founded in 1997, inspired by the work of Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank and a global leader in the fight against poverty. Grameen’s signature programs are in digital financial services, digital innovations in agriculture, and women’s economic empowerment, Grameen’s goal is to incubate and scale breakthrough models and tools that empower poor rural women and their households to break free from poverty and hunger. To achieve this mission, Grameen provides technical assistance in human-centered design, digital innovation, and data for decision-making to a range of private and public sector partners.
 
Her commitment to be part of the solution for financial inclusion is the main reason why she is looking and experimenting with blockchain technologies.  She believes that the real value of new technology innovations is when it is used to solve the problems of those who are living in poverty and open up opportunities for them. 
 
Gigi says “I have crossed many boundaries” and her career has brought her to the intersections of IT, banking, insurance, microfinance and development sectors.  Some past roles include Vice President at BPI Globe BanKO – the Philippines’ first all digital bank for the underserved, National Officer at the Asian Development Bank, and as a Professor at the Graduate School of Business of the De La Salle University. She holds a Master in Business Administration, a BS in Computer Science, was a Certified Information Systems Auditor for more than 10 years, is a Certified Microfinance Expert, a Climate Reality Leader and is a board member at the Fair Training Center which works to combat forced labour.
