Advances in Breast Cancer Research Workshop

October 26-29, 2010 | Sponsored by NSF and held at the University of Arkansas

Sponsored by a grant from the National Science Foundation (ENG-0965571, Program Director Dr. Omnia El-Hakim) and in part by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, the Ozark Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the college of Engineering, and the Honors College.

With support from the National Science Foundation, Magda El-Shenawee and Carol Gattis at the University of Arkansas are proud to host the 2010 Advances in Breast Cancer Research Workshop on October 26-29, 2010. This workshop will integrate researchers from nanotechnology, biomagnetics, microwave imaging, acoustics, laser, and biochemistry fields with researchers from radiology, oncology, and breast surgery. Ten prominent breast cancer researchers from medicine and engineering will be presenting their cutting-edge research on the following topics:

The Principal Investigators hope that this workshop will inspire and motivate researchers from medical sciences and engineering to establish collaboration among the multidisciplinary areas presented in the workshop. Discussions in the format of questions and answers after each presentation can stimulate new ideas and directions to advance the current techniques of breast cancer detection and treatment.
