University of Arkansas Dean Guerdon D. Nichols gave him leave in 1951-1952 to work at Oxford with Ronald Syme.

Neudling was the faculty advisor for the newly-created Eta Sigma Phi chapter Beta Pi (May 29, 1950). The local chapter was installed on May 29, 1950 with Jack Neel, former law student, as chapter president. [source: Razorback yearbook 1954 p. 280].
