About
The Fayetteville Math Circle is a monthly meeting with the goal of presenting unusual math principles, ideas and games though self-directed and hands on activities. Associated with the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Arkansas, the goal of the circle is to get kids excited about math and to engage in the kinds of mathematics they don’t see in school. Just as being a poet requires good grammar, but studying grammar and studying poetry are two very different activities, our goal is to present the wild and often unknown side of mathematics.
We’re currently targeting kids in grades 5-9, though of course, all kids are welcome. We do not expect any background other than solid arithmetic, but we will continue to introduce new ideas and will be developing algebraic thinking.
The math circle usually meets on the first Saturday of the month at 2pm at the Fayetteville Public Library.
See the Calendar of Events page for this year’s meetings.
See the Other Regional Competitions page for information on the MOEMS and AMC 8 contests, as well as Math Kangaroo.
