*Note: Before WWII Conn purchased all grenadilla wood purchased though Germany. During the war the lines of communication for the import of grenadilla were down.. So Conn was concerned about the future of making wood instrument. Conn were involved in making airplane propellers from laminates. So they experiment with this new “technology” to make wood instrument (I have seen only “Pan American” clarinet and oboe made from this meterial but not bassoon). Conn realized that players would not accept a black stain, they had two options, paint them black, or market them as having a “Violin” finish.
