Meet Professor John Gallagher & Professor Whitney Payne from Social Work! They will be teaching SCWK 4733: Social Work Practice III this fall 2018. The purpose of Practice III is to provide the opportunity to gain and practice the skills, knowledge, and values necessary for culturally competent generalist social work practice with organizations and communities. Special attention is given to the implications of human diversity, discrimination and oppression in the context of organizations and communities for attaining social and economic justice.

This course is concerned with agency and community-based social work practice. All project focus on these issues within agency and/or community contexts. Potential projects include conducting small fundraisers for local non-profits, planning larger fundraising events or campaigns, and helping local non-profits identify and/or prepare to apply for grants.

Professor Gallagher and Professor Payne currently work with agencies that address issues of homelessness, human trafficking, and substance misuse in Northwest Arkansas. However, they both expect issues and agency partners to evolve over the years. The identification of these (and future) issues and agency partners are informed by the instructors years of social work practice and connections within the local social service system.
