New courses approved for Sustainability Minor
Updates for the minor
New courses have been approved for the Sustainability Minor. These courses are CHEM 4283 Energy Conversion and Storage, CHEM 3603 Organic Chemistry I, CHEM 3703 Organic Chemistry I Lecture for Majors, and BENG 3653 Global Bio-Energy Engineering.

Capstone opportunity: The Cobblestone Project is in need of one student to survey and evaluate subscriber satisfaction with their harvest share subscription program and use gathered information to help better manage agricultural production activities on the farm. This project applies to both social and managed systems. Please contact Dr. Jennie Popp at jhpopp@uark.edu if you are interested in this project.
Guest Lectures
- Wednesday, April 2, Garrett Nielson, with the Dept. of Energy, will be visiting Silicon Solar Solutions and UA faculty and students who are interested in opportunities in solar. His organization has an interest in moving both hardware and software from the lab to the marketplace. The talk will be held in Executive Board room in WJWH (Room 504) on April 2 10:00am – 11:00am.
- Join Strong Towns co-founder and president Chuck Marohn for a presentation and discussion on how we can design our cities and towns in a way that is financially responsible while also improving quality of life and creating vibrant public spaces. The Curbside Chat will be held at the Fayetteville Public Library on April 2 at 6:30 pm and is free and open to the public. Click Here for more information.
- Chuck Marohn will also lead a 3-hour workshop on Thursday, April 3rd from 9 am to 12 pm. Mr. Marohn’s workshop regards strategies for improving city budgets, reducing taxpayer burden and strengthening local tax bases. The workshop will be held in the Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development auditorium, on the U of A campus; 145 North Buchanan. Registration is $25 per person. Click here to register.
- Jo Luck, former president of Heifer International speaks at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in Giffels Auditorium in Old Main. Luck is a 2010 World Food Prize Laureate for her work to ensure availability and sustainability of food to people in need around the world. Her lecture is titled “From Hunger to Hope to Human Dignity.” The event is free and open to the public. Click here for more information.
- Don Mosely will lecture about Walmart’s decisions regarding sustainable building designs and LEED certification at the Reynolds Center Auditorium Tuesday, April 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Lecture is free, open to UofA students and USGBC members. Hosted by the USGBC Steering Committee and ASG.
