Spring 2015 Capstone Experience
If you are a student in the Sustainability minor who will need to complete a capstone project to graduate in Spring or Fall 2015, you will need to enroll in SUST 4103 in the Spring 2015 semester. The capstone is only offered in the spring, so you should begin planning your project or internship now. Please read this document to familiarize yourself with the requirements and expectations. You can also view posters from past projects here.

EPA Campus RainWorks Challenge
U.S. EPA’s Office of Water is pleased to announce the third annual Campus RainWorks Challenge for undergraduate and graduate students. Once again, EPA is inviting student teams to design an innovative green infrastructure project for their campus showing how managing stormwater at its source can benefit the campus community and the environment.
Projects submitted to this competition are eligible to apply for funding through the UA Green Revolving Fund.

Fulbright Partners to Host Global Forum on Food Security
The presidentially appointed J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board will visit the University of Arkansas to join the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences in co-hosting the “Fulbright for Food Security” global forum. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, and will be live-streamed from Hillside Auditorium on the U of A campus. Audiences online and in person will engage with expert panelists about initiatives by Fulbright fellows and alumni to combat hunger through collaborative research, education, innovation, new technology, and economic and policy development.

3rd Annual Pesto Fest
TriCycle Farms invites you and your family to the 3rd Annual Pesto Fest and Pesto Contest. Come enjoy music, local food, and fun activities. Enjoy music by Cutty Rye and food from local restaurants. There will be kids’ activities at 4 Pm including Eco-fairytales by Floraluna, rock painting, hula hooping, and a puppet show. To enter the pesto contest, bring a pint of your best pesto to be judged by 3 celebrity chefs for Best Pesto, Most Creative, and a People’s Choice award, with great prizes from local businesses.

The 2014 Sustainable Arkansas Conference brings together the state’s top designers, contractors, engineers and building owners for the latest updates in sustainability. People’s Climate March
In September, world leaders are coming to New York City for a UN summit on the climate crisis. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is urging governments to support an ambitious global agreement to dramatically reduce global warming pollution. More than 700 organizations are convening the largest climate march in history. Many trains and more than 400 buses are expected from across the country, and one of those is from Arkansas. Students interested in participating may be able to receive full or partial funding.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer with Razorback Food Recovery
Razorback Food Recovery, an RSO that reduces food waste on campus by recovering extra, wholesome food that would otherwise be wasted and donating it to hungry people. RFR is in need of volunteers for the fall semester to help with Union and Pomfret Dining Hall recovery operations. This is an opportunity to learn about food waste reduction while making an impact on food insecurity right here on our campus.
Tree Planting: Fall Riparian Project
On Saturday, September 13th, we invite you to partner with IRWP staff, landowners, city employees, and volunteers to plant over 500 native tree seedlings along creeks and streams in the Illinois River Watershed (NW Arkansas)! Tools, gloves, water, and snacks will be provided by the IRWP. Volunteers should have a positive attitude and be willing to get their hands dirty. Outdoor clothes and close-toed shoes are also important.
