Environmental Engineering, Construction and Architecture Industry Recruiter Talk

As part of GeoCareer Week, on Thursday, Sept. 10, 6:30pm-8pm in the 2nd Floor Honors Lounge of Ozark Hall, Fulbright College will host a talk from an industry recruiter in the field of Environmental Engineering, Construction and Architecture. The talk will be given by UA alumnus, Mallory Bryant-Harris with Zweig Group, who conducts executive searches in this field for nationwide firms such as TY Linn, Jones & Carter, Wiles Mensch, and more. Volunteer Opportunities

Tri Cycle Neighborhood Outreach for Pesto Fest

Pesto Fest is our biggest annual fundraiser and we’d like to have some volunteers help us sweep the neighborhood to get the word out to our community that they’re invited. This is a one time volunteer opportunity that will consist of 2-3 hours of handing out flyers, so make sure to bring your walking shoes! Ideally we’d like to outreach in groups of two, so bring a friend or come out and make new ones! If you’ve never volunteered with Tri Cycle before No problem, this is an easy-peasy event with no manual labor involved.

Bayyari Elementary School Community Garden Workday

We will be clearing beds, planting fall crops, amending the soil, collecting seeds, and getting the garden cleaned up and ready for winter. You will be joined by teachers, students, and their families. There will be snacks, but bring any tools you have and perhaps a pair of gloves if you need them!

Lee Creek/Devil’s Den Cleanup

Please join us for the annual Lee Creek Cleanup at Devil’s Den State Park on September 12, 9am to 1pm. Litter is a major problem for parks, natural areas, wildlife habitat, and local waterways. We need your help to reduce the litter along Lee Creek within Devil’s Den State Park and help keep the area clean and protect clean water. Lunch is provided at noon, and there will also be drawings for some awesome doorprizes from our sponsors at 12:30. This event does take place outdoors, so it is recommended that you wear older clothes and gloves. Some gloves will be available, along with all cleanup supplies and water. Help us be more sustainable and bring a reuseable water bottle! Check-in begins at 9am at event headquarters.

This is a Great Arkansas Cleanup event in partnership with Keep Arkansas Beautiful, and organized by Boston Mountain Solid Waste District, UA Cooperative Extension, AR Canoe Club, Devil’s Den State Park, the US Forest Service, and Washington County.

Ozark Off-Road Cyclists Trail Love Day @ Lincoln Lake

Join us as OORC will be rerouting some trouble areas on the Lake Loop and going for a ride after. Bring your bike and plenty of hydration, trail snacks, bug spray and a good pair of work gloves and shoes. Trail tools will be provided.

Habitat Construction — Fayetteville Site

Volunteers will be working on a variety of needed tasks. No skills are needed, just a willingness to learn and the desire to give back to our community! Please dress appropriately for the current weather and in clothes which you are OK getting dirty. NO FLIP FLOPS & NO SHORT SHORTS! Please plan to arrive on site 15-10 minutes early so that you are signed in and ready for instructions and the safety review. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. (Volunteers under 18 MUST have a waiver signed by a parent or gaurdian). You MUST wear safe closed toed shoes. If you have gloves or small tools you would like to use, please be sure they are labeled so that they don’t get mixed up with the Habitat tools. Thank you for volunteering … we look forward to a fun day working on Delmy’s home!

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Tri Cycle Farms’ Food Recovery/ Compost Crew

Every Thursday, we gather at Tri Cycle to sort through boxes of expired produce from Ozark Natural Foods, a local health food coop. We sort and weigh the food, feed some to our sweet chickens, and then add the rest to the compost. There is also usually plenty of still-good-looking, organic produce to share amongst ourselves! If you like veggies, chickens, or compost, come join us for a chill, fun volunteer opportunity while helping to prevent food waste in our community. Just meet outside the community house at the farm (1705 N Garland Ave) at 3:30pm on Thursdays!

Habitat for Humanity ReStore Assistant

Customer service is the primary focus for our ReStore Volunteers. Our ReStore staff will assign jobs as needed. Below are examples of the types of jobs you will be asked to do. Greet and assist customers as needed. Assist in cleaning, pricing, and organizing merchandise. Arrange items on display shelves and sales floor. Hang pictures and create decorative displays when needed. Rearrange furniture and other merchandise in all departments to ensure displays remain visually stimulating. Arrange special promotion displays as needed. Help keep aisles clean and safe. Assist with donation pickups if necessary. Light cleaning. Please dress appropriately for the weather. This is a warehouse environment with limited climate control. All volunteers must wear closed toed shoes. The Habitat ReStore is family friendly so please no short, shorts or inappropriate t-shirts.

Feed the Hungry and Homeless — House of Hope Rescue Mission

The House of Hope Rescue Mission is a “Day Center” for the homeless and needy. Our goal is to provide a place where people can come for shelter from the cold or heat, receive snacks, water and a hot meal while at our facility, get help with life skills and job searches. We provide showers, a place for clients to do their laundry free of charge, and a place they can receive mail. Clients can receive clothing and food from our pantry monthly.

There are multiple ways to volunteer at the House of Hope:

• Be a Greeter
• Work in the Food Pantry: Stock shelves, prepare food bags
• Help clients with laundry
• Prepare meals to serve
• Serve meals to clients
• Clean up after lunch
• Assist clients in finding needed clothing for day to day wear or job interviews
• Assist clients on computers (as available) to search for jobs
• Come to socialize with clients and be a friendly face
• Offer to assist with Bible studies
• Be available in the children’s room to play and read
