Earth Day planning is underway at the Office for Sustainability as spring approaches! We’ve got a whole new line-up of events and projects for this year’s celebration of our favorite national holiday.

First and foremost is the Earth Day Vendor Fair that will take place in front of the UA Union on April 22nd from 10:00 to 2:00. The event will feature up to 30 local businesses and organizations, as well as related university departments and RSOs. They will be promoting the work they do for the environment and for our community with handouts, giveaways, informational flyers and pamphlets. Table registration is open until April 17th, and interested organizations are invited to sign up now.

The fair will also feature an Earth Day History table with information about how this holiday got started and how it has been celebrated through the years. We also hope to have a volunteer opportunity sign-up table, in which organizations or departments seeking volunteers for any green-related service projects they might be hosting can promote their event and call out for volunteers. This way, students looking for volunteer hours could learn about these opportunities and even sign up for them. If you know of an event or organization that would like to be featured at this table, please email the event coordinator at ferran@uark.edu.

Other events in the works for Earth Week will include a movie screening of an original documentary by Carl Hitt called “Hawks of Wilson Park,” an address by Mayor Lionel Jordan, and possibly a creek cleanup service project.

So come spend your Earth Day with us this spring, at the Earth Day Vendor Fair on Tuesday April 22nd, 10:00-2:00pm. And once again, vendors can register here, and for more information, email us at sustain@uark.edu or ferran@uark.edu. Happy Earth Day!
