Mission
The mission of the Office for Sustainability (OFS) is to motivate, facilitate and coordinate innovation and change through partnerships with faculty, students and staff across administrative units to create a culture of sustainability. The OFS oversees the implementation of the University of Arkansas’ sustainability goals; convenes the community to share best practices; evaluates and recommends new programs and policies that strive to serve as replicable models to inspire students and future leaders. The OFS facilitates coordination of research initiatives to expand our knowledge of sustainability solutions.
Overview of responsibilities
The OFS seeks ¾ time appointed Project Manager to coordinate calendars, meetings, events and miscellaneous OFS tasks associated with operations. The Project Manager will also assist the director of sustainability with the coordination of Sustainability Council Workgroup meetings and facilitate the development of new and existing projects that support UA sustainability reporting requirements. The Project Manager will also help with digital media and website updating as needed. Applicants must be enrolled at the University of Arkansas. Applicants from all academic backgrounds will be considered. The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively, working positively with a very diverse group of colleagues, faculty, staff, and students to implement the mission of the OFS.
Break down of responsibilities
10% Event Support
- Prepare and maintain budget for events.
- Coordinate efforts for events with student groups, departments, and programs.
50% Program and Project Support
- Support implementation of sustainability programming and projects.
- Provide opportunities for sustainability engagement with volunteers.
- Support students with campus sustainability projects.
- Coordinate meetings and communications between student teams, project teams, work groups, and OFS Director and Executive Director.
40% Administrative Support
- Manage communications for OFS Director and Executive Director.
- Manage schedules for interns, OFS Director and Executive Director, and Sustainability Council.
Desired skills: One year of experience in project management, experience in sustainability programming, strong passion for sustainability education.
Required skills: Competency in MS Outlook, WordPress development, Google docs collaboration, manipulation of images through Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, basic understanding of office equipment, effective verbal and written communication, task and time management.
Additional Information
- Anticipated rate: $10.00 an hour
- Deadline to apply is September 23, 2013. Positions begin September 2, 2013.
- Applicant must dedicate 32 hours a week to position. Hours are flexible.
