Where do we stand?

The University of Arkansas is ranked #3 in the SEC with a recycling rate of 17.372%. Cumulatively, we have reduced 238 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, or 47 cars off the road, or the energy consumption of 21 households! View the University’s profile here.  Below are more updates for each competition within RecycleMania.

RSO competition

11 RSO’s are busy recycling in our RSO Recycling Competition as part of RecycleMania. They’re bringing in bottles, cans, and paper to count towards the University’s total recyclables.

Kappa Kappa Psi is currently in first place, with 322.3 points!!  Second is the American Concrete Institute with 231.5, and third is Gamma Sigma Sigma with 192.1. This is the final stretch of the competition, with collection ending on March 31st.

Residence Hall competition

Residence halls are also competing for RecycleMania. The hall that recycles the most wins a hydration station! Remember, trash items and contamination in recycling bins do count against your hall.

As of March 14, Buchanan Droke is in the lead, recycling 2.89 lbs per resident.  Total recycled adds up to 6907 lbs!  Way to go!  View the Housing website for more info.

Drives

Drives include electronic waste, books, CDs, and plastic cards. For more information about these drives, see this post. The bookstore is still collecting electronic waste until March 29th.

How can you help?

It’s easy, just recycle!!! Recycle your bottles, cans, paper, and corrugated cardboard while you’re on campus. All these materials can be recycled, so don’t put them in the trash! Be a good steward to the environment and encourage your friends to do the same.

White paper goes into white bins, mixed paper into grey bins, cans and bottles into blue bins, and cardboard into green dumpsters. Visit the Razorback Recycling website to learn more about using the appropriate receptacles and materials.

The RecycleMania competition may end March 29th, but the recycling doesn’t have to.

The University of Arkansas hopes to be zero waste and people on campus can contribute to that goal. Take care of the Earth!
