February 2nd marks the beginning of RecycleMania 2014 for the University of Arkansas. The Office for Sustainability will once again host the RSO recycling contest! The competition was extremely successful in 2013, and we have high hopes for 2014. Sign up by January 30th, 5:00 pm, to compete for the grand prize of $350.00 and be entered into a raffle for $100. Prize money will be given to RSOs after expense reports are provided. The OFS will reimburse RSOs up to the prize amount.
The recycling competition will be held from February 2 – March 29. Rules are as follows:
• Only officially registered RSOs may compete.
• Recyclables are limited to: white paper, mixed paper, plastic bottles, glass bottles, aluminum cans, and steel cans.
• Plastic bottles, glass bottles, aluminum cans, and steel cans must be delivered together in the plastic bags provided by the Office for Sustainability.
• Bags must be full and free of contaminating substances, or they will not be accepted.
• RSOs will receive five points per bag of bottles and cans.
• White paper and mixed paper must be separated and delivered in cardboard boxes or reusable bags. Contaminated and/or wet paper will not be accepted.
• Paper will be weighed and RSOs will receive one point per pound of paper.
Participating RSOs can drop off recyclables at the Office for Sustainability beginning February 2 from 12:00pm – 4:00pm, Tuesdays thru Thursdays. We will distribute plastic bags for collection of bottles and cans to RSOs before the competition.
