Environmental Sociology to be Offered in Fall
Beginning in the fall of 2015, Professor Zola Moon will be offering a course called Environmental Sociology. A Tier 1 elective for the Sustainability Minor, the course provides a social perspective on environmental issues. It examines the linkage between society, ecological systems and the physical environment.
This course is cross-listed within several departments. Students may take the course as SUST 390V, RSOC 4603, or SOCI 4603. Graduate sections are available under the latter two listings.
The only prerequisite is junior or senior standing. This course is the prerequisite for Environmental Justice, which will be offered in Spring 2016 by Professor Moon.

“Bcycle” Bike Share Demo
The University of Arkansas Office for Sustainability invites the campus community to visit Bcycle on April 30, 2015 from 11:30-1:30 between Old Main and the School of Architecture. Bycle will demo their bike share technologies with the campus community. Students, staff and faculty can ride a bike and learn more about the benefits of bicycling.

Coffee for a Cause: Grounds for Positivity
Join You Ought to Live Optimistically from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in Holcombe Hall Living Room for the best cup of coffee you’ve had this semester! Come enjoy an amazing mug of Ethiopian, Colombian, Vietnamese, and/or Turkish coffee to the sound of relaxing coffee-house music from around the world.
After a traditional Ethiopian/Eritrean coffee ceremony, attendees can learn about the positive economic impact that fair trade coffee business has played in some developing countries as well as responsible consumerism.
Want to make the planet happy? We do, too! We will continue our waste-free policy by encouraging the participants to bring a mug! Plus, this automatically allows you to participate in our Eco-Friendly Mug Contest to get great prizes!

Rain Garden Volunteer Workday
Help maintain the rain gardens around Huntsville by removing weeds, adding mulch, fixing berms, and cleaning out trash and debris on Thursday, April 30th from 3:30 to 6 pm. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about rain gardens and how they work! Gloves and tools will be provided. The Boston Mountain Solid Waste District is now accepting applications for a full-time Environmental Educator. This position will serve Washington County and the City of Fayetteville. A degree from a four-year college or university in environmental education, environmental science, public education, marketing or related field and two years of experience working in a related public outreach program is preferred.

#FutureIsClean Campaign Student Leadership Opportunity
The campaign #FUTUREISCLEAN gathers people, companies and organizations worldwide around one clear statement: «I want concrete actions for a clean future». In December 2015, world leaders will meet in Paris at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) to decide upon a new climate agreement. By mobilizing millions of people around the world, the campaign supports global leaders in reaching an ambitious climate agreement.
The Campaign seeks to establish a U.S.-based student leadership team to organize outreach efforts and worldwide visibility for the cause. Its mission will be to mobilize a unified voice around solutions for climate change by establishing a positive message, creating visual branding, and raising awareness on campuses and in communities.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore
The ReStore is a discount home improvement center that sells donated home improvement merchandise at reduced prices to the general public. 100% of the profits support Habitat for Humanity of Washington county. We have a small staff and rely on volunteers for ReStore support.
Customer service is the primary focus for our ReStore Volunteers. Our ReStore staff will assign jobs as needed.

TriCycle Farms
Tri Cycle Farms, located at the corner of Sycamore and Garland Avenue, is a centrally located urban farm on the blue and red bus routes (free parking is also available at the Trinity United Methodist Church). The mission of Tri Cycle Farms is to “build community through soil,” and the nonprofit (via fiscal partnership with the OMNI Center for Peace, Justice and Ecology) is working broadly with other like-minded organizations in the region to strengthen food security. Tri Cycle Farms has ongoing “Farm to Table” programs, gardening classes, volunteer opportunities, chicken husbandry, herb walks, a composting system, and new plans to develop a farmer’s market with the Trinity United Methodist Church, which is directly across the street from Tri Cycle.
