Join the Benton County Cooperate Extension Service as we celebrate National Ag Day. The theme for this year is Agriculture: Stewards of a Healthy Arkansas. The event begins at 1:00 pm and concludes at 3:30 pm. Dorn Winninger, VP Produce and Floral, Wal-Mart, the Benton County Butler Farm Family, and Governor Hutchinson will be speaking at the event. Meth Waste Awareness Class |
|
|
|
|
|
A common way of making meth these days involves little more than rigged soda bottles, which are all-too-often dumped on roadsides or in creek beds. The average volunteer (or leader for that matter) does not know how to recognize meth-related waste, and there is a slight but real possibility of dangerous reactions occurring if the items are picked up and disturbed. For this reason, we want the cleanup leaders in the community to be aware of these risks, and I’d like to invite you to a short class covering this subject. Our Environmental Enforcement Officer, Mike Harp, will talk about the types of meth waste materials that you could come across during a cleanup, and what to do if that happens. He has lots of photos to share of items that have been found dumped in Washington County, and he can also answer any questions that you may have. |

We help families in stress by assisting them through programs and services such as: Food Storehouse Counseling Services Kids Life Programs Adult Education Senior Saturdays We utilize volunteers in our food pantry, after school and summer care for children, Senior Saturdays and Continuing Education programs. Hours are flexible and can be varied. Volunteering, could include anything from: bagging product, sorting donations, cycleing products, re-stocking our food pantry, cleaning, organizing crafts, or storage closets. |

War Eagle Creek Cleanup |

Join us as we clean up the War Eagle Creek! Volunteers will meet at 9:00 am at Withrow Springs State Park. The cleanup will end at 1:00 pm with lunch. Canoes and kayaks will be available for those who would like to float and clean a 2 – 6 mile stretch of the river. Cleanup supplies will be provided. The Center for Agricultural and Rural Sustainability (CARS) has about $5000 to allocate towards travel scholarships, up to $2000/pers. Funds must be used by June 30, 2016 and are limited to US travel for conferences, meetings, grant proposal meetings, research or outreach meeting, or anything similar. Part Time Horticulrure Position |
|
|
Prosperity Acres in Springdale and Winslow are looking for a student to manage and maintain their aquaponics system. This is part time, 3 days a week, 12 – 24 hours a week. The schedule has some flexibility. The candidate must show initiative, be a self-starter, pays attention to detail, is self-managed, and can work both alone and with a team. Some experience with horticulture is preferred, but must be willing to learn and must know how to formulate and run basic horticulture experiments. Also must be able to lift a filled 5 gallon bucket. Other possible duties can involve but not limited to: visiting our hay fields for soil samples, plant and insect counts, and manage our micro-nutrient program. Must have good driving record. Tri Cycle Farms’ Food Recovery/ Compost Crew |

Every Thursday, we gather at Tri Cycle to sort through boxes of expired produce from Ozark Natural Foods, a local health food coop. We sort and weigh the food, feed some to our sweet chickens, and then add the rest to the compost. There is also usually plenty of still-good-looking, organic produce to share amongst ourselves! If you like veggies, chickens, or compost, come join us for a chill, fun volunteer opportunity while helping to prevent food waste in our community. Just meet outside the community house at the farm (1705 N Garland Ave) at 3:30pm on Thursdays! |

Habitat for Humanity ReStore Assistant |
|

|
Customer service is the primary focus for our ReStore Volunteers. Our ReStore staff will assign jobs as needed. Below are examples of the types of jobs you will be asked to do. Greet and assist customers as needed. Assist in cleaning, pricing, and organizing merchandise. Arrange items on display shelves and sales floor. Hang pictures and create decorative displays when needed. Rearrange furniture and other merchandise in all departments to ensure displays remain visually stimulating. Arrange special promotion displays as needed. Help keep aisles clean and safe. Assist with donation pickups if necessary. Light cleaning. Please dress appropriately for the weather. This is a warehouse environment with limited climate control. All volunteers must wear closed toed shoes. The Habitat ReStore is family friendly so please no short, shorts or inappropriate t-shirts. |

Feed the Hungry and Homeless — House of Hope Rescue Mission |
|
|
|
|
|
The House of Hope Rescue Mission is a “Day Center” for the homeless and needy. Our goal is to provide a place where people can come for shelter from the cold or heat, receive snacks, water and a hot meal while at our facility, get help with life skills and job searches. We provide showers, a place for clients to do their laundry free of charge, and a place they can receive mail. Clients can receive clothing and food from our pantry monthly. There are multiple ways to volunteer at the House of Hope:
