Crisp is the science team leader for NASA’s OCO-2 mission, and is the University of Arkansas’s 2016 Robert D. Maurer Distinguished Lecturer.

His talk will center on the way atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) measurements are expected to revolutionize our understanding of CO2 buildup – which correlates to escalating climate and water changes. This talk will also describe the OCO-2 mission, summarize its measurement approach, and present results from its first 15 months in operation.

Introduction to Permaculture with Thomas McKnight

Interested in the basics of permaculture or looking to freshen up on your knowledge of the ecological and social culture? Come take this class for a brief history of people, principles and practices that make up today’s permaculture systems. This will be a two day class and the second day we will build an herb spiral from scratch together. Herb spirals are a great way to see how various plants inhabit different environments based off sun, shade, and moisture levels. Spruce up the look of any yard by adding these helix style creations and you’ll also spice up your kitchen.

The immediate objective of Project Clean Plate is to reduce food waste for the duration of the two-week campaign and throughout the school year. The long-term objective is to facilitate change in student’s eating habits through food waste awareness and the encouragement of mindful eating of meals.

Volunteers are needed to table in the dining halls during dinner hours. They will engage students and raise awareness about the initiative. Volunteers will serve a shift of 1 hour or 1 hour and 15 minutes. Food will be provided during each shift served.
