Founder of Thomas Phifer and Partners to Present Lecture

Thomas Phifer, founder of Thomas Phifer and Partners, will present a lecture at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, in Ken and Linda Sue Shollmier Hall, Room 250 of Vol Walker Hall, on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, as part of the Fay Jones School of Architecture lecture series. He will present the current work of the firm.

In describing Thomas Phifer and Partners, he said, “In all of our work, we seek a natural economy of elements through order grounded in nature and predicated on conservation. We shape the character of our architecture through passive solar and ventilation strategies, incorporating ancient and modern principles of air movement. We consciously aim for simplicity – in planning, our use of light and air, building organization and circulation – because it is our experience that simplicity leads to economy, efficiency and improved performance.”

Walker Park Neighborhood Recycling Outreach

During the week of Saturday, November 1st to Thursday, November 6th, the City of Fayetteville will be conducting a door-to-door recycling survey in the Walker Park neighborhood to better understand what drives our residents to recycle and also to help determine the barriers that keep some residents from participating in our recycling program. We will need volunteers to help ask questions and record results from our door-to-door survey form from 9AM-noon on Saturday, and Monday-Thursday 9AM-noon and 4-6PM. It is extremely important to arrive on time at the beginning of your volunteer time slot, so that we can go over instructions. All volunteers will receive some RecycleSomething swag to take home!

There will be a brief ‘training’ before actually going door-to-door, to give some tips for speaking to the residents, and explain how the project will work. Therefore, volunteers must arrive at the beginning of the time slot, to insure they get the important instructions before we start. In addition, we will be walking up and down numerous streets in this neighborhood, so volunteers will need to be able to walk about a mile or so.
