RecycleMania Begins Feburary 1st

From February 1st to March 28th, the University of Arkansas will be participating in RecycleMania 2015, its eighth entry into this nationwide competition to raise recycling and waste management awareness across American schools. The Office for Sustainability will be hosting an E-Waste Drive as well as a Better Books Drive during this time, so we encourage everyone to take the extra time in these coming eight weeks to recycle as much as possible. Come by the Sustainability House to drop off any used or broken electronics you’d like to get rid of, as well as old books you want to donate to the Book Drive.

Wreaths Across America Veteran Christmas Wreath Recycling

Wreaths Across America placed more than 7200 Christmas Wreaths on the gravesites of our Nations Veterans. Bo’s Blessing is a lead organization involved in this effort, we will be disassembling those Wreaths for recycling in an effort to preserve our environment, and to raise funds to aid the effort for next year’s Wreaths Across America Event. We have been performing this recycling for 3 years now, and are one of the few National Cemetery’s who are able to ensure that every Veterans gravesite is adorned with one of these beautiful wreaths. Your consideration to aid in the recycling would ensure that we are able to maintain that 100% coverage for our nations Veterans. The recycling event will be held at a U of A warehouse located at 750 S. Hill St., Fayetteville, AR

There are no training requirements for this event, simply a willingness to aid in this massive effort. It is recommended that every volunteer have available to them a pair of work gloves to protect their hands.

TriCycle Farms

Tri Cycle Farms, located at the corner of Sycamore and Garland Avenue, is a centrally located urban farm on the blue and red bus routes (free parking is also available at the Trinity United Methodist Church). The mission of Tri Cycle Farms is to “build community through soil,” and the nonprofit (via fiscal partnership with the OMNI Center for Peace, Justice and Ecology) is working broadly with other like-minded organizations in the region to strengthen food security. Tri Cycle Farms has ongoing “Farm to Table” programs, gardening classes, volunteer opportunities, chicken husbandry, herb walks, a composting system, and new plans to develop a farmer’s market with the Trinity United Methodist Church, which is directly across the street from Tri Cycle.

Contact Don Bennett at fayettevilletricyclefarms@gmail.com or 479-966-0572, or Joanna Pollock at jbperson@uark.edu or 708-828-5695 for more information about how to get involved or tour Tri Cycle. You can also find Tri Cycle Farms on Facebook.
