Animal Dissection Simulated Laboratory

What does the animal dissection lab demostrate?

The simulated animal dissection lab is an activity to educate students to identify the reproductive, digestive, and skeletal systems for cattle, pigs, and chickens. Students will be able to understand, demostrate and describe the purpose and function of each part of the species.

How do I teach this lab?

First, for this lab, the instructor choose to assign students to work individually or in groups.

Next, students will obtain the models of the animals to analyze. Students will also have worksheets to write the purpose and function of each system (digestive, reproductive, and skeletal).

Then, students will turn in models of the animals and worksheets after their work is completed.

Additional or optional assignment: Students can make a power point of the materials that they gathered throughout their investigation of the model animals. This will help increase their public speaking skills.

This lab activity is a great alternative for an animal dissection lab. After this lab, students should be able to correctly identify the reproductive, digestive, and skeletal systems of the model animals. Students should also be able to understand, demonstrate and describe the purpose and function of each listed part of the species they were assigned.
