Steps for Setting Up & Using the Service:
- Log in to ProctorU with your ProctorU credentials. You will use your ProctorU instructor account to set up exam sessions, review your exam schedule, and access information about student exam experiences. If you do not have a ProctorU account, email gproctor@uark.edu.
- Create a new exam or clone an exam from a previous semester for your exam sessions for the upcoming semester.
- Add exam instructions to your Blackboard course. Include the link to the ProctorU Instructions for Students – https://tips.uark.edu/proctor-u-instructions-for-students/
- Send a list of any students who require extra time on the exam to gproctor@uark.edu. Please include the student’s name, UARK email address, and the exam length accommodation.
- Send out an announcement to your students reminding them that your course is using ProctorU a week before the exam. Test-takers are advised to schedule 72 hours in advance of their testing day, or they will be charged a premium fee.
- Review your Blackboard exam settings to limit potential problems. See the ProctorU & Blackboard Settings below.
- If a student has an issue, the ProctorU Advocate team will assist the student and contact you with details.
ProctorU & Blackboard Settings:
It is very important that you follow the below TEST AVAILABILITY settings for Blackboard. Your Blackboard exam settings must match your ProctorU exam settings. By paying close attention to the information below you and your students are much more likely to have a great experience with online exam proctoring.
Ensure that your Blackboard TEST AVAILABILITY settings match the preferred settings outlined below:
- Select Yes under Make the link available.
- Force Completion should be turned off. This allows students to log back into the exam and complete it if they lose connection. The proctor will have to enter the exam password again.
- Auto-Submit should be turned off. If an issue takes time away from the student you will be notified by ProctorU through an Incident Report. Inform your students that they should make up the lost time and let them know you will be able to calculate how long they actually were in the exam.
- Do not select Display After or Display Until. To avoid availability issues and the need for manual Blackboard extensions and adaptive release, remove all Blackboard availability settings from the exam so that it is completely available with no limitations. Students will be required to take the exam through ProctorU inside the availability you specify on the ProctorU exam session. Only you and the proctor have the exam password, so the student will not be able to access the exam outside the ProctorU availability.
- Password: Check and make sure the exam password in Blackboard exactly matches the password in the ProctorU exam session. If the passwords do not match, then the proctor will not be able to get the student started on the exam. DO NOT GIVE PASSWORD TO STUDENTS. The Proctor will take over the student’s computer and type the password remotely.
