Connecting a rubric to an assignment
When creating an assignment, blog, journal, wiki, or discussion forum (not individual threads), the Grade option needs to be selected before you can add a Rubric.
- Select Grade : Points possible and then the Add Rubric button will appear.
- Click Add Rubric, and you will be given the options to:
- Select Rubric (an existing rubric)
- Create New Rubric (takes you into Rubric tool), or
- Create From Existing (copy an existing one and edit it)
- When you select the rubric (if the rubric uses a point scale), a pop up window will ask if you would like to use the maximum point value set in the rubric as the possible points for the assignment. This will change the point value of the assignment that you entered earlier to match the point value of the rubric. Typically that’s okay.
- Do you want the students to see the rubric?
By default the rubric is not shown to students. But you can allow them to see it with or without the scores attached to the set criteria.
Note: It is recommended that you allow students to view the rubrics so they understand how the assessments will be graded.
Show Rubric to Students offers four options for rubric visibility:- No does not allow students to view the rubric at any time.
- Yes (With Rubric Scores) allows students to view the rubric when the item is made available, including possible point or percentage values. This is recommended for most situations.
- Yes (Without Rubric Scores) allows students to view the rubric when the item is made available, but does not include the possible point or percentage values.
- After Grading allows students to view the rubric only after grading on their submission is completed.
