Important Note: It is recommended that instructors ignore an attempt or allow an additional attempt rather than clearing it. That way there is a record of the attempt for the sake of keeping accurate records as well as for assistance from BBhelp when an error occurs.
We will show you how to allow an additional attempt first and then provide instructions on how to clear the attempt below.
Allowing a Second Attempt using Test Options
If you would like to retain the student’s first attempt for your records, you can allow the student another attempt without deleting the original.
- To do so, access the area of the course where the exam is deployed.
- Open the drop down circle to the right of the exam name and choose Edit the Test Options.
- Under Test Availability Exceptions add the student who needs the additional attempt by selecting Add User or Group, selecting their name, and selecting Submit.
- To give a user a second attempt, change Single Attempt to Multiple Attempts and enter 2 into the text box. You can also change the time and date these users can access the exam or add extra time for students who require it.
- Select Submit.
Clearing Test Attempts through the Grade Center
- Go to your course’s Full Grade Center and locate the submission to be cleared.
- Select the drop down circle next to the Attempt you would like to remove. This attempt shows as a yellow exclamation point or a grade.
- Expand the Test Information located at the top of the page under the user’s name and select Clear Attempt and select Ok in the resulting dialog box.
