Additional Information

It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that you have:

  1. A photo ID (UA ID or driver’s license)
  2. a computer/laptop (tablets and phones will not work)
  3. a web camera
  4. a microphone
  5. speakers or a headset for communicating with the proctor

A built in camera and mic in a laptop will work just fine. Visit ProctorU Test It Out to verify your camera, mic, bandwidth, Flash plugin, and operating system. Again, not having a working system will not excuse you from these exams. You must verify that your system is working ahead of your scheduled exam time.

PRE-EXAM CHECKLIST

  1. Make sure your webcam, microphone and speakers are installed and working correctly. If this is your first exam with ProctorU, please visit ProctorU Test It Out to check your equipment before logging in at test time. Be sure to close out of any other webcam software before you visit the page.
  2. At exam time, go in a few minutes early and test your equipment one last time before starting. You can always click “Connect to Person” which will bring you to a support tech who will help you. You can also ProctorU Test It Out to connect to LIVE HELP anytime day or night.
  3. You will take a short authentication quiz based on public records. Please be patient with this part of the service, it is just another form of ID verification, and if you fail the authentication quiz you will still be ok if you have photo id, so don’t worry. Failing the authentication quiz will not affect your exam score.
  4. Take your exam under the proctors’ supervision and click submit when you are finished.

Wireless internet (Wi-Fi) is strongly discouraged for online exam proctoring, because if the wi-fi signal is lost, your exam timer will keep running while you log back in and reconnect with ProctorU. To ensure you have a stable Internet connection, use an ethernet cable. If you absolutely have to use Wireless on campus, use the UARK Wi-Fi option from the Wi-Fi menu.

Public spaces such as a computer lab are generally discouraged for proctoring, because the environment is more distracting. If however, you have no other alternatives and need to take the exam in a computer lab on campus, use the Arkansas Student Union Computer Lab.

Principles of Biology students will have a space in the Union dedicated for ProctorU Exams, please see your blackboard course for more information.

If an issue arises during an exam your instructor will be notified with an incident report.  You can find contact information here to discuss issues with ProctorU.  Also, you are encourage to contact your instructor of an exam issue as soon as possible.

Do You Need Equipment for Online Exam Proctoring?

If you are on the University of Arkansas campus and need to check out a laptop with an integrated webcam, you can do so at the Student Technology Center in the Union. They have a large number of laptops available.

Go to the “Reserve IT Website” link below, log in and reserve your equipment.

Reserve IT Website

  • Select Laptop One-Day

***It is not recommended to use a computer lab for online proctoring because it is a less controlled environment. Please reserve a new laptop if at all possible from the STC. However, if you do need to use a computer lab as a backup for online exam proctoring please use the Union computer lab. ***

Click the link below if you need to download a Flash update for your computer ahead of time:

Flash: Get Adobe Flash Player (Be sure to deselect the McAfee Add-on), you can test if you have Flash updated here: Check Flash

Internet Connection Best Practices:

If possible, use a ethernet cable connection for your exam session. Wireless (“WiFi”) works, but is not as reliable as using an internet cable.

If you are on campus and have to use wireless, use the UARK Wi-Fi connection instead of UARK Guest Wi-Fi. You can select this in your “Internet Connections.” ProctorU connection will not work with the UARK Guest Wi-Fi network.
