When Chancellor David Gearhart visited Panama to see President Ricardo Martinelli, an alumnus, to establish a scholarship program and exchange program, President Martinelli presented Chancellor Gearhart with this flag. Both the scholarship and exchange programs resulted in a large number of Panamanian students attending the University of Arkansas.
Note from Jessamine D. Gist about this unique Razorback illustration:
“Janet Marie Brown (Mrs. Randy Northcutt of Forrest City) created this design as a computer class project when she was a student at the U of A from 1978-1980.
Janet’s signature is in the upper left-hand corner – in faded red – along with “Go Hogs” and “’77,” the year Janet graduated from Lee Academy in Marianna. She was a student of mine at the Academy. It was I who scored the A’s in red when they began to fade.”
