U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Recruiter

 

Please come out to Kimpel Hall room 105 on November 16th from 6:00PM-7:00PM to learn about career opportunities with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Mr. Courtney Williams from the Southeastern Regional office in Atlanta, GA will be giving us a look into internships and jobs that students and young professionals can obtain through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This event is being hosted by The Wildlife Society to promote professional development and alternative job opportunities for a variety of majors.

Thought for Food Challenge

 

The 2015/16 Thought For Food Challenge calls on the world’s best and brightest university students to form teams and develop breakthrough projects that address the global challenge of feeding 9 billion people by 2050. In return, we provide a platform for you to shine, cutting-edge learning tools and resources, world-class mentorship from rock star experts, innovators and entrepreneurs, the chance to win a trip to the inspirational TFF Global Summit as well as significant funding for your project. You’ll also join a growing global movement, comprised of friends and supporters who share your passion to make the world a better place.

Volunteer Opportunities

 

Sweden Creek Falls Natural Area Fencing Removal Project

 

The goal of this event will be to remove fencing from the interior of the Natural Area. Our work will help native plants and animals on the natural area, including several species of conservation concern.

Wednesday & Thursday, November 18th & 19th

From Kingston travel 5.3 miles south on Hwy 21 towards Boxley. Turn right at on Madison County 3260 towards Red Star. Travel 4.0 miles to the Natural Area.

 

 

Canned Food Camp Out

 

Canned Food Camp Out is Cumulus Radio’s Annual event that benefits LifeSource! It consists of 3 days of collecting canned goods, hams, turkeys, etc. to help families in NWA who are struggling with poverty and hunger. These three days of collecting donated items will help us restock our food pantry to serve over 55,000 families each year and give away 600 holiday food baskets. We NEED lots of volunteers to collect items at Walmart (Joyce St), sort and load items on the truck. This is a great group activity or fun for families.

Help us serve dinner to over 300 people in two hours! We are in need of assistance all day with set up, serving, and clean up of this family friendly event. Dinner will be served from 5p-7p and is open to everyone. Please contact us for more details

Football Game Day Recycling Volunteer

 

For all home football game days we will meet at the Boston Mountain Solid Waste District tent outside of Bud Walton arena (see attached map). Plan to work on recycling efforts (collection and sorting) throughout your entire shift. Boston Mountain Solid Waste District will provide food which will be followed by fun and free t-shirts.

Your time and effort helps the entire razorback community. We really appreciate your commitment to recycling with the razorbacks. The past two years, we placed 1st in the SEC and 8th in the nation in the EPA game day challenge. With your help, we hope to be the first SEC team to achieve zero waste on game days! Wooo Pig Sooie!

Tri Cycle Farms Garden Workday

 

Join us at Tri Cycle Farms every Tuesday from 3-6pm for a volunteer workday in the garden! As fall arrives we will be working in the fall garden, winterizing the summer garden and doing various other farm and garden related chores and activities. See you at the farm!

Tri Cycle Farms’ Food Recovery/ Compost Crew

 

Every Thursday, we gather at Tri Cycle to sort through boxes of expired produce from Ozark Natural Foods, a local health food coop. We sort and weigh the food, feed some to our sweet chickens, and then add the rest to the compost. There is also usually plenty of still-good-looking, organic produce to share amongst ourselves! If you like veggies, chickens, or compost, come join us for a chill, fun volunteer opportunity while helping to prevent food waste in our community. Just meet outside the community house at the farm (1705 N Garland Ave) at 3:30pm on Thursdays!

Habitat for Humanity ReStore Assistant

 

Customer service is the primary focus for our ReStore Volunteers. Our ReStore staff will assign jobs as needed. Below are examples of the types of jobs you will be asked to do. Greet and assist customers as needed. Assist in cleaning, pricing, and organizing merchandise. Arrange items on display shelves and sales floor. Hang pictures and create decorative displays when needed. Rearrange furniture and other merchandise in all departments to ensure displays remain visually stimulating. Arrange special promotion displays as needed. Help keep aisles clean and safe. Assist with donation pickups if necessary. Light cleaning. Please dress appropriately for the weather. This is a warehouse environment with limited climate control. All volunteers must wear closed toed shoes. The Habitat ReStore is family friendly so please no short, shorts or inappropriate t-shirts.

Feed the Hungry and Homeless — House of Hope Rescue Mission

 

The House of Hope Rescue Mission is a “Day Center” for the homeless and needy. Our goal is to provide a place where people can come for shelter from the cold or heat, receive snacks, water and a hot meal while at our facility, get help with life skills and job searches. We provide showers, a place for clients to do their laundry free of charge, and a place they can receive mail. Clients can receive clothing and food from our pantry monthly.

There are multiple ways to volunteer at the House of Hope:

  • Be a Greeter
  • Work in the Food Pantry: Stock shelves, prepare food bags
  • Help clients with laundry
  • Prepare meals to serve
  • Serve meals to clients
  • Clean up after lunch
  • Assist clients in finding needed clothing for day to day wear or job interviews
  • Assist clients on computers (as available) to search for jobs
  • Come to socialize with clients and be a friendly face
  • Offer to assist with Bible studies
  • Be available in the children’s room to play and read
