I always hesitate to use only one source when reviewing assigned reading. However, of all these readings, “How to Avoid 10 Common Mistakes in Data Reporting” felt like the focal point and the other readings only backed up what it had to say.

I wouldn’t have thought it nearly as important as it really is to take a step back and recognize that numeric data can be as fallible as information gathered during an interview or from a human source.

Second, I found it interesting (and comforting) to be reminded in the last “tip” to remember to ask for help. You know to ask for help in a learning environment, but sometimes it feels foolish to reach out with a question to other professionals. I really like the suggestion of using social media to get help from other journalists. This allows for all of the greatest minds to come together and create good, honest, and transparent reporting.
