Greetings!
I am Christina Wilkerson, editor, wanna-be entrepreneur, and lover of all things with a story to tell.
Springdale, Arkansas has been my home since day one, and although the city has seen better days, I’m proud to call it my hometown.
I’ve been doing journalism work since my early high school years, though I really became serious about pursuing the craft as a career my freshman year at the University of Arkansas. I began working for the Arkansas Traveler as a staff writer before I took my first course on campus, and continued to weave in and out of various positions on the staff and editorial board until this year. This semester is my last before I graduate May 2017. I’ve traded my Traveler positions for the role of editor in chief for the Razorback Yearbook 2016-2017.
Aside from my work in the journalism department, I held an internship with Edible Ozarkansas last spring and summer. It was there that I produced one of my best works. I wrote and helped design the cover story for the Summer 2016 issue of Edible Ozarkansas. This story covered the Springdale Taco Tour and mentioned the fledgling efforts to revitalize Springdale being made by residents and city leaders. Though this piece may not be top-notch, I loved getting to tell the story of a culturally diverse city discovering its ethos and its community bond through authentic cuisine.
As for my hobbies, you’re looking at it! I like to write, and I try to write as frequently as possible, whether that be journaling, blogging, or writing for a print publication. I also like to read. The two books to which I devote most of my free time these days are I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou and Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Both are exquisite works of literature.
