One of the aspects of our reading I found most exciting was the theme of integration – the multilevel and multidisciplinary collaboration involved in producing data journalism. The team list for the “Coal Seam Gas by the Numbers” was expansive and included people from varying backgrounds. This inclusions helped caused me to envision a future journalism that is is interdisciplinary, like the ABC article pointed out – “Data journalism teams are made of people who would not in the past have worked together. The digital space has blurred the boundaries.”

I also enjoyed learning about how the Chicago Tribune reporters and “hackers” worked together to expand the news app and build data-driven stories. The only question I would ask is “Why benefits are there to allowing the reporters to drive the app ideas? Why don’t other newsrooms do this?”
