When I think of data journalism I usually think of statistics found in an article or an accompanying graphic but BBC has found incredibly creative ways to represent data. Their interactive graphics such as the crash reports and the world’s population graphic are more personal than typical data sets.
Do statisticians often assist in data journalism or is it assumed that the journalists themselves have enough statistic knowledge?
As for statisticians, it can vary. I have called on the stats nerds to help on some of my projects, and then others I just went ahead with it by myself because the analysis didn’t require nerd intervention. I have found the more time I spend learning statistics myself, the better off the projects will be.
