About me:

I’m Lindsey Guimont, a senior journalism major with a focus in news/editorial with a marketing minor. I’m from Allen, TX and was born in New Orleans, LA.

I wrote for the Arkansas Traveler and also maintain my own food instagram (@foodie.foods). One of my favorite stories I’ve written was about a student entrepreneur who gained majority of her business following through Twitter (http://www.uatrav.com/the_companion/article_dd8e0544-aac1-11e6-a4f7-8736a68b690f.html).

For work experience, I’ve been creating forms and marketing materials for a doctor’s office since I was in high school. I’ve worked as a brand ambassador twice. The first time for a pimento cheese company and the second for a pet vitamin, and yes they were as boring as it sounds. I had an internship last summer with Odyssey as a sales executive, where I sold advertising space to local businesses in Northwest Arkansas. I am working towards owning my own event planning company.

In my free time, I model for boutiques and local photographers for portfolio building. I also have done a few runway shows. I also have a pitbull boxer mix daughter named Mya.

I took Data Analysis at the business college so I have some experience with Excel, but I would not say an expert.

Data Journalism Handbook:

Graphs and charts definitely catch my attention went skimming news and sometimes will be the reason I read the article, so focusing on this aspect is very helpful to make stories more noticeable. One part I found really interesting was the “Murder Mysteries” story and how that data journalist made an algorithm to show the presence of serial killers. What type of data education would you need to be able to create an algorithm to prove a trend like that one?
