Complete Exercise #2 with University of Arkansas and University of Missouri at Columbia. Compare the two schools with these questions.

2. How much would an out-of-state student expect to pay in total tuition, room and board for the 2016-2017 school year? How has that changed in the last year on a percentage change basis? How does that differ from in-state students?

University of Arkansas: $38,650

University of Missouri: $42,290

University of Arkansas: It changed by 5.0%

University of Missouri: It changed by 6.1%

The University of Arkansas had a higher increase for out of state students, but was still lower than Missouri. University of Missouri had a lower out of state increase than in state.

3. Which category increased the most from the 2016-2017 school years? Raw change? Percent change?

Raw Change

University of Arkansas: Out of State Tuition increased by $1,342.

University of Missouri: Other on campus and other off campus both increased by $1,014.

Percent change

University of Arkansas: Out of state tuition and fees increased the most by a percent change of 6.1%

University of Missouri: Other on campus and other off campus increased the most by 27.1%

4. Write a lead for a story based on your analysis.

Deciding where to go to college can be a tough decision. Many students decide where to go to school based on majors/programs offered, financial aid availability, tuition, location, clubs and extracurricular activities. However, going to school in-state saves students money. **Use the data you calculated to provide a little more specificity in the lead, such as the out-of-state tuition and expenses for University of Arkansas students is $14,348 more than in-state students.

5. What other information and/or sources would help you finish this story?

I think you could also learn about scholarships and how likely either school is to give scholarships. Which could be compared to how much the student pays.
