Questions for Jesse Holland about “US teachers nowhere as diverse as their students”:
1. What was your main objective in this story? The main point is obviously that “more to be done to help teachers more accurately mirror the students in their classrooms,” but what is the explanation of why it isn’t so. Is the hiring process racist? Are not enough minorities going into teaching as a profession — or not going to college at all? What is the responsibility of the journalist in exploring the why behind the data.

2. Another question about comparing data: is it fair to group whites against “nonwhites”? I like that you include the breakdown of different races/ethnicities
