This spreadsheet contains HMDA data for the Northwest Arkansas region from the 2014. This data shows that a majority of our population is white and the smallest race group is Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander.

The total number of applications received from Asians was 271 while the total loans declined for the same race was 21. The total number of applications received from Black or African Americans was 132 while the total loans declined for the same race was 20. Just one less than Asians. Although the total loans declined had a difference of 1 the rejection rate for Blacks or African Americans is doubled that of Asians. This shows how big of a difference the total number of applications received can make when calculating percentages.

Why do Native Hawaiians/Other Pacific Islanders have such a high rejection rate? This is because they only had 25 applicants and 7 were denied.

I am also curious about “Race not available”. If these people identified with a certain race, how could that change the data? I wonder why some people chose not to disclose their race?
