One of my questions is not necessarily about the UCR, but more about how people interpret it. They recommend that people don’t use the data as a “ranking” system. But I’m sure it has happened too many times to count. So my question is, how often exactly is the media, legislatures, law enforcement, or whoever, using this data in a way that is unethical. As in, who is using it to their advantage in order to further their agenda by ranking it in a way that it best displays their agenda (but might not necessarily be true). Has their ever been a time someone has been caught using it unethically or in a way to take advantage of the public.

This leads me to the question of, is there a better way to stop the purposeful, or even accidental misuse of the data. Does the FBI or any law enforcement keep an eye out for this at all? I’d like to see who uses the UCR on the most normal basis and how often they use it. because more than likely, statistically speaking, the person (or people) that use it the most, have by human error, misinterpreted or misrepresented it. Even if it was on accident.
