1. Using the four corners test for determining the number of cities can be misleading. Because some of the data is from sheriff departments that cover entire counties that might contain individual city police departments, the four corners test may not be completely accurate unless the user separates the two. Using the four corners test on the data reveals 43 sheriff departments and police departments. Within that 43, 32 of them are police departments. We could say that the data contains 32 city police departments and 11 county sheriff departments.

The crime rates are organized between property and violent crimes. Property crimes include burglary, larceny-theft and motor vehicle theft. Violent crimes include murder and non negligent manslaughter, the legacy definition of rape, revised definition of rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

2. Fayetteville is ranked third in the state for property crime total because of the higher number of larceny-theft compared to fourth-ranked Jonesboro.

3. The violent crime rate for all of Arkansas is 3.77 per 1,000 people and the property crime rate for all of Arkansas is 25.01 per 1,000 people.

Blytheville had the highest violent crime rate in Arkansas in 2014 with a rate of 17.32 per 1,000 people.

Blytheville also had the highest property crime rate with 83.95 per 1,000 people.

Fayetteville’s property crime rate is 42.37 per 1,000 people, placing it at number 20 statewide.

Fayetteville’s violent crime rate is 4.96 per 1,000 people, placing it at number 16 statewide.
