The cost of attending either the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville or the University of Missouri in Columbia is rising every year, with annual in-state tuition at each campus now equivalent to the price as a new small truck.

For the about the same price as a 2017 Toyota Tacoma truck, students can attend the University of Arkansas or the University of Missouri, according to data obtained from College Navigator, an online collection of postsecondary education data from the National Center for Education Statistics. In-state tuition at the University of Arkansas was $23,506 for the 2015-2016 school year and $24,183 for in-state at the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Out-of-state students at Arkansas pay $36,810, about 36% more than than in-state students, or the equivalent of a 2017 Audi A4 Sedan. The price tag is much steeper at the University of Missouri, where out-of-state students pay $39,840, about the price of a BMX X3.
