Local banks and loan agencies reject housing loan applications from members of the two smallest minority groups in Northwest Arkansas at the highest rates.

Those who identified themselves as an American Indian and Alaskan native or native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander are each rejected for loans about 28 percent of the time, nearly twice the rate of denial for black people, the racial group with the next highest rate, according to data reported from the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.

American Indians, Alaskan natives, native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders represent just over 4 percent of the population, according to 2014 census data.

Questions:

  1. Why are Asians granted loans at the highest rate?
  2. Can we get credit scores divided by race for Northwest Arkansas? I spent a little time Googling for this and didn’t find anything. Is there a government organization that tracks this?
  3. Here is my data sheet: monk-quiz-9-19
