My name is Veronica Torres. My birthday is May 12 and I love celebrating birthdays.
I am from Fayetteville, Arkansas. I love Fayetteville. I decided to stay here because of the connections I already had on campus with the Lemke Journalism Project during my junior and senior year of high school. I also decided to stay because of my family. I love being close to my family and having the opportunity to see them, eat dinner with them, and be around for big events like graduation.
I haven’t been involved much on campus during my college career, but I am trying to get more involved on campus this semester by working for the paper and possibly the magazine and/or yearbook. I have also worked at Fun City for three years. At Fun City, I am a manager and I also do payroll, bills and manage the Fun City Pizza Instagram account.
My hobbies include making crafts. I enjoy making sorority crafts, art for my walls, and t-shirts and jewelry. I’ve made an abstract art piece for my wall. I made a birthday t-shirt and a concert t-shirt. I also recently made a monogram bracelet for myself to wear. I also enjoy working out. I enjoy workout classes with friends like Zumba, P90X, and yoga. I also enjoy going to art museums and exploring new cities and finding murals.
I don’t really think I have produced my “best” story. I enjoyed writing a feature story on my bus driver last year, but I still think that story could’ve been better. https://veronicatorresweb.wordpress.com/2017/05/08/normal-job-extraordinary-man/
I also took Statistics my sophomore year and really enjoyed it. I am very excited to learn more in this data class and learn different parts of it.
Part of the reading related to how unemployment affects people being data. Would this be something that is doable by people who study political science? I am also curious about a marketing aspect. With a marketing minor, would this help in understanding? Data, in a way refers to how people portray things but also how they are viewed? Data can also be seen as visual journalism? Would data journalism be considered graphs and charts and those types of things?
I am now to Fayetteville, and I love it here. Great town.
Data definitely can present and alter portrayal of some class of people or things. And yes, data is visual journalism, and we will be doing a lot of that.
