Different rejection rates for races are expressed when looking at different files. For instance, in the combined 4-1 and 4-2 HMDA data American Indians/Alaskan Natives had a 29 percent denial rate. However, the denial rate was different according to the 2014 HMDA Loan Application Register in which American Indians/ Alaskan Natives had a 36 percent rejection rate. Similarly, the rejection rates for Asians, Whites and Black/ African Americans were higher in the 2014 LAR data than the combined HMDA data. Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders were the only group whose rejection was lower in the 2014 LAR data with a 22 percent denial rate. One reason for the shift in rates can because of refinancing. Native Hawaiian/ Pacific Islanders were the race with the lowest rejection due to refinancing. Farm Loans does not appear to be a reason for the different rejection rates among races since the rates range from 2 percent to 5 percent.
