I had a very hard time with this homework assignment. I first tried to use VLOOKUP, but very quickly realized I was not able to figure it out. For a while, I considered manually putting the zip codes into the crime data excel spreadsheet. But I realized that would take too much time,

This lead me to try to link the zip code data with our crime data within Tableau. When I was setting up the link between these two set within Tableau, it would not let me link the zip codes with the primary cities or counties. The way it forced me to link it was to link the agency names form the crime data, to the counties and cities within the zip code data.

I had to fiddle around with how to link them for a while. It took me a long time to really understand the function and how it worked. Once it was set up I still ran into an issue though. While I could make one map of the cities, and one of the counties, I couldn’t figure out how to link them together or make both the counties and the cities appear correctly on one map.

When I made a cities map, and then tried to drag the counties pill onto the map, it didn’t do what I wanted it to do. I thought it could jut map the counties along with the cities but that did not happen. I’m not really sure what Tableau was doing.

The two above pictures are two separate sheets, and for a while I also tried to figure out how I could combine those two sheets so that they would be plotted on one map. I looked for ways to combine two different sheets on the internet and even tried to see if I could incorporate the dual axis function.

nothing really made sense or seemed to work, so again I came to a dead end. I tried many different options and none seemed to work for me. I am interested to talk about it in class and see how I can make it work.
