I initially thought that using vlookup would be the easiest way to clean up the data, but I was unable to find our original population sheet or any other spreadsheet with the zip codes available. Instead, I made columns for cities and counties in the excel spreadsheet and then refreshed the Tableau data. Then I changed the cities and counties to their respective geographic roles and added them to details. Then I added violent crime rate to size and color. Tableau didn’t recognize some of the cities though. I was able to correct it in some cities but not all. Perhaps the more rural small towns aren’t in Tableau for some reason. Using vlookup with zip code data would probably be a faster and more accurate fix.
