The Federal Bureau of Investigation released Arkansas crime data information Tuesday, March 7. Among this information were property crime and violent crime numbers for 43 Arkansas localities from 2010 and 2014.

The general trend between 2010 and 2014 statewide was that property crime fluctuated by greater degrees than violent crime, however, both had outliers on the top and bottom of the spectrum.

Among such outliers, West Memphis showed the greatest improvement in the violent crime rates with a drop in violent crime by almost 1,200 cases, nearly cutting the previous 2010 rate in half. West Memphis also came close to having the greatest decrease in property crime as well.

Of the 40 localities that have the data required to run the numbers, 12 saw an increase in both categories. Blytheville had the highest property crime and violent crime rates in 2014, which helps explain its second to the top position on the gains list. Aside from Siloam Springs, which gained the most property crime, and Helena, which gained the most violent crime, Blytheville consistently gained the most crime in each category.

Fayetteville was among the 12 localities that gained crime in both categories, moving from 19th statewide for violent crime in 2010 to 15th in 2014, and from 22nd to 19th for property crime. Of the localities that gained crime from 2010-2014, Fayetteville’s gains were either toward the middle or the bottom of the spectrum.
