Drug Offenses in Arkansas

Drugs, they are everywhere, the good and the bad, they can either save your life or end it. They have become an issue of everyday life and have not stopped or slowed down their process in doing so.

Arkansas’ biggest problem with drugs are the more populated areas, NWA and Central Arkansas which include many of the college towns and big businesses within the state. The data that I have in these graphs are the top 10 most drug infested areas in the state.

As you can see in the graphs the numbers show that the closer you are to these areas the more drug offenses you will see. These cities are very populated and a large reason for them is business and colleges. Also many of them are attached to the main highways of the state so therefore easier to get the drugs from one place to another. Fort Smith, Russellville, Bentonville, Fayetteville, Little Rock and Conway all are college towns and they are among these cities with the most drug offenses.

Arkansas college towns are all over these charts and for good reason. Everyone knows that drugs are involved on any college campus. No matter how hard you try to get rid of them, they are always going to be there. Yes, it is a problem and yes, people are trying to end drug offenses in total, but college students are experimental maniacs. They are learning about their lives at a young age and are experimenting with many things. Not all experimental things that they do are bad, in fact most of them can be good, like scientific experiments that science majors will do or just any project/internship that students get involved with are technically experiments as well because they are experimenting with what they like or maybe they find out they don’t like what they are majoring in.

As the years go by the population of these cities grow, bringing in more students and workers. The more populated the area is, the more offenses you’re going to have. In the charts the numbers show that every year all cities increase in population and drug offenses as well as total offenses increase, not a significant number but enough to make a difference. In 2012 the highest number of drug offenses was in Fort Smith with a total of 1,299 and a population of around 87,500 people. In 2015 the population went up to about 87,600 people and their drug offenses went up to 1,457 and Little Rock in 2012 had a population of 196,055 and had 1,051 drug offenses and in 2015 had a population of 198,647 and 1,082 drug offenses. Although the increase in both cities is not much this proves that it is not just one city that it increases in. The data itself shows you that as the population increases theirs going to be more and more offenses for drugs.

In conclusion, drugs are a part of our state. They have been around for years and will be around for many more to come. They affect our lives and as the population grows so will the number of total offenses and drug offenses. Population is nothing that you can really help growing as much as it does but drugs is something that the people and the law can crack down on. For people to make change on the drugs in Arkansas they have to make more regulations. The more time these drugs go unregulated the more time they are out there in bunches and the more they will grow in accordance with the population.
